Rob Hardee started in construction sweeping floors on the weekends at 14 years old, working alongside his neighbor, a general contractor. From there he moved through the trades: mason tender at 16, then bricklayer, then carpentry and framing, where he stayed for eight years. In 2001 a saw accident changed his path. He went to college and earned a bachelor's in construction project management, then spent four years managing a large-scale commercial concrete outfit until the 2008 market crash.
That crash is where residential work took off for Rob — and where he met Nick Martinez. Rob and Nick have worked together since 2008 in residential remodeling and new home builds, building the kind of team experience that pulls projects together and delivers finished work on time. Nick manages production and stays close to clients from start to finish.
About four years ago, Rob and Nick met Lora Beattie, a designer with 15 years of experience who fits the team exactly. Lora brings the energy and drive needed to meet clients' needs, creating stunning designs and collaborating with the team to bring each project together.
The fourth member of the team is owner Paul Schmadeke, the foundation of the company. Rob and Nick have known Paul for 18 years and have worked with him on projects through his other companies. Paul owns a successful insurance restoration business and a carpet cleaning business, so when the opportunity came to build a design-build team, he jumped on it. Paul is all about customer service: he visits job sites regularly and meets with the team to make sure projects are running and clients are happy.

Manages every job site from permit to final walkthrough. Worked alongside Rob for years before Five Star existed.
Lora Beattie
Handles layout, finish selections, and the design work that turns a lot or an outdated house into a finished plan.
